| Appraiser Tips: | To keep the artwork in its present good condition do not display artwork in bright sunlight or artificial light. Do not hang the artwork in the vicinity of fireplaces, heaters or baseboard heat nor near any heat-producing appliances. These conditions will hasten the deterioration of your artwork. They may cause fading of the colors and erosion of the support. |

| Appraiser Comments: | The artwork which you have submitted for inquiry is a production cel. These hand-painted and hand-inked drawings are the first step in the production of an animated film. The painted picture that you have is the "cel" or painting on celluoid film. Cels are quite collectible items and certain Disney and Warner Brothers cels reach into the $1,000.00 or more range at auction and the retail market. Disney Studios produced "Song of the South" with its premiere of the film in 1946. The film included live action scenes with interspersed animation characters in it. The cel that you possess is not signed by one of the noted Disney animation artists but it does have the personalized signature of Walt Disney on the lower right-hand corner of the artwork. The cel has the three important characters that were featured in the animated film, Br'er Rabbit, Br'er Fox and Br'er Bear. There are newer reproductions of these original cels by Disney that are currently offered on the market as limited-edition cels. For the purpose of this appraisal, the values stated are for the cel as an original from circa 1946. Both Walt Disney's signature and the characters in the artwork make for a desireable piece to a Disney collector. Thank you for your inquiry. Sara Kinch |
